Timeframes apply when lodging a CTP insurance claim. You must lodge a claim form:
- within six months of the date of the accident, or
- in the case of a Nominal Defendant claim, as soon as reasonably practicable after it becomes apparent that the at-fault vehicle in the accident cannot be identified or is unregistered (and therefore uninsured).
If you do not comply with these timeframes, the CTP Insurer or Nominal Defendant may decline to deal with your claim (some exceptions apply; refer to Regulation 4(2) of the Motor Vehicles (Third Party Insurance) Regulations 2013). The CTP Insurer must provide you with information, support and assistance to ensure you are aware of your obligations to comply and give you the opportunity to correct the situation.
If you have not complied with these timeframes, please contact the CTP Insurer handling your claim to discuss your circumstances.
You can access the claim forms via the Lodging your claim form page, or you can have it posted to you by calling the CTP Regulator Enquiries Line on 1300 303 558.
